Meeting with the Minister of Health of Ukraine

Mr. Viktor Liashka, Minister of Health of Ukraine, visited Warsaw on March 28. He met with Prof. Robert Gałązkowski, Vice-Dean for Dietetics, Medical Rescue and Public Health of the Medical University of Warsaw, Chair of the Medical University of Warsaw’s Team for Cooperation with Ukraine. They discussed cooperation between the Medical University of Warsaw and Ukrainian medical universities.

Previous activities were summarized, including training for medical staff in Ukraine and Poland, as well as internships provided in Poland for academic staff and students of Ukrainian medical universities.

  • “Erasmus+” studies and internships for students and postgraduates (42 scholarship holders)
  • “Erasmus+” training for physicians and academic teachers (51 scholarship holders)
  • Participation of representatives of Ukrainian medical universities in conferences hosted by the Medical University of Warsaw – the “Warsaw International Medical Congress” (20 participants)
  • Polish language courses for refugees from Ukraine and participants of the “Erasmus+” program (117 participants)
  • Warsaw City Rotary Club’s “Stop Cancer” scholarships for Ukrainian specialists in the field of anatomy pathology: pathologists from Kharkov and Lviv – the Department and Section of Pathomorphology of the Medical University of Warsaw and a pathologist from Lviv – Institute of Pathology, Medical University of Vienna (3 scholars)
  • Project “Time 2 MUW” [carried on in pursuit of] teaching excellence – online training for teaching staff from Ukrainian universities: “Teaching in the module of preclinical sciences in medicine” (397 participants)
  • Training in tactical and emergency medicine for physicians and feldshers from Ukraine conducted for 11 weeks by employees of the Medical Emergency Section of the Medical University of Warsaw and the Air Ambulance Service: cardiopulmonary exercises; triage of patients; evacuation of the injured; application of tactical internships; decompression of pneumothorax; massive hemorrhage, airway, respiration, circulation and hypothermia (MARCH) prevention; preparation of injured persons for transport (1,000 participants)

Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of the Medical University of Warsaw, and Prof. Robert Gałązkowski signed a cooperation agreement in Ivano-Frankivsk regarding support in the field of training in battlefield medicine. Equipment for teaching this subject was donated to Ukraine during the visit.
